Frequently Asked Questions

Renovation & Rebuild FAQs

Can I upgrade materials (e.g. quartz countertops) during an insurance rebuild?

Yes. Your insurance carrier pays the replacement cost value for like-kind and quality (e.g., laminate). You can apply those insurance funds toward higher-end finishes (e.g., quartz or custom cabinets) and simply pay the difference out-of-pocket as a contractor upgrade.

What is Ordinance or Law (Code Upgrade) insurance coverage?

Ordinance or Law coverage pays for mandatory building code upgrades required by current municipal building departments—such as upgraded electrical wiring, arc-fault breakers, energy insulation minimums, and hardwired smoke alarms that were not present in the original build.
